Industrial metaverse

The win is digital twins and physical-AI factory simulation on NVIDIA Omniverse and Siemens Xcelerator, not headsets; enterprise XR stays niche and the consumer-metaverse framing is dead.

The thesis

Core thesis

The industrial metaverse differs from the consumer metaverse in one crucial way: it has clear ROI. Simulating a factory before building it saves millions. Training workers in virtual environments reduces accidents. BMW, Siemens, and Ericsson have active industrial metaverse deployments. The compute requirements compete with AI for GPU capacity.

State of the art (2026)

The industrial metaverse has narrowed to a digital-twin-plus-physical-AI play, not a headset story. NVIDIA Omniverse remains the gravitational centre: Caterpillar, Foxconn, Toyota, TSMC, Lucid and Wistron are building Omniverse factory twins, and at CES 2026 Siemens unveiled Digital Twin Composer (Xcelerator Marketplace, mid-2026 availability), built on NVIDIA Omniverse libraries, with the next phase of the partnership an "Industrial AI Operating System". The enterprise-XR leg is the weak one: Apple Vision Pro stayed niche and the action shifted to simulation, USD interoperability and physical-AI training rather than immersion. Dassault, PTC, Bentley, Hexagon and AVEVA hold the platform layer. The honest read is real ROI in factory and infrastructure twins, with consumer-style metaverse framing largely abandoned.
